Alright guys so we should be up and running now with the blog. I went in and made you both admins, does anyone have any idea on what we should make the focus (how we want to go about it I guess) for our project? It seems that in order to do the concept map we need to know that part.
Our topic is Building, so our project should be something a child can build easily. My first thought was the classic birdhouse or bird feeder, small pieces of wood easily (and cheaply) purchased and assembled with just a few nails and a hammer. Another thought I had was doll-sized furniture, like a bed or table. Perhaps we'd set it up so participants would need to find plans and acquire materials on their own, as part of the project. This teaches planning and using available resources. What do you all think?
ReplyDeleteI like both of those ideas and I think maybe we should focus on both actually so we have a wider range of topics, but how would we want to represent those into a blog? She has suggested for the history group that they create a visual museaum or timeline. Or was your suggestion about setting it up so participants had to find the plans (perhaps providing a few of our own and offering locations for other plans) and aquire their own materials how we would display that?
DeleteI remember making a bird house in third grade. The teacher had the nails, hammers, and wood planks, we had to decide how big we wanted the house, and cut the wood ourselves to the right messurement. (mine was alittle wanky) and then we also learned about some of the birds that we might find in the bird house.
DeleteWe could talk about how we would have the stuff they needed to make the bird houses, but allow them to design/cut and make the bird house themselves.
I re-read the instructions. It sounds like we need to design a project and explicitly lay out each step a student would have to take to complete the project, so in our case finding plans, gathering materials, cutting wood, and assembling.
DeleteBut then we - as a group - will do the project, so in our case make some sample bird houses/ bird feeders. It sounds like we're supposed to involve the community, so perhaps we find a local area where we are allowed to hang our feeders or bird houses, and then perhaps print and post some sample plans/directions.
This is just my assumption of how the project will look, additional comments?
I think that sounds good. :)
